UndocuAlly

Graphic Design
Project Overview
UndocuAlly was brought forward to me by the multicultural center at Eastern Washington University. A program that has reached all around the country at different universities and organizations, now personalized to fit Eastern Washington University and the surrounding community. UndocuALLY was looking to advance awareness of the undocumented community,  and enhance the knowledge of our community about the needs of the undocumented both on campus and in our world.
My Contributions
My main goal was to create a compelling and recognizable design that could be used to identify someone on campus as a ally to the undocumented. Research and development of the imagery used and its meaning was a large part of the process. Along with close communication from the members of the Multicultural Center at Eastern, I was able to help them create an identifier and project heading that they would be proud to share.
UndocuALLY is intended for anyone interested in being a responsible and visible ally for undocumented students on the Eastern Washington Universities campus and beyond. Participants who complete the workshop earn a placard to display in their campus office, residence hall, or any personal space. Participants will also be invited to add their name, department, and contact information to be displayed in our UndocuALLY Directory on the Multicultural Center website. The goals of UndocuALLY is that participants will be able to:

1. Differentiate between DACA, undocumented, and international student statuses.

2. Name systemic disparities faced by undocumented students in higher education.

3. Identify resources for undocumented students (both on and off campus).

4. Recognized how through your personal role you can support undocumented students.

Conceptually for the design, I researched the UndocuAlly program in detail to get a better understanding of how I could represent them. The monarch butterfly is a staple of their organization with its famously known mass immigration from South America to North America. Keeping the monarch butterfly was important for connecting the campus to the UndocuAlly program.
